On spanking your children...

i posted about this on my own website, but i'd like to get thoughts here as well, since jw's are big proponents of the 'violence is the answer' side of this debate.. new research is suggesting that spanking children may result in lowered iq's.

(la times article) one hypothosis i've read elsewhere as to why this may be is because when faced with an unexpected result (the glass broke) the non-spanked child wonders why the glass broke and how much abuse a glass can take before breaking (essentually, the problem-solving/scientific parts of the mind find the unexpected result interesting, and want to learn more).

the spanked child immediately enters fear mode - he's in trouble, his parents will be dealing him pain soon.

I was waiting for you say he could take a punch too. There's nothing more soothing than reading about a grown man physical assaulting a defenseless two year old. "Men" (I put men in parentheses because I'm using the term loosely here) like you are second only to child molesters on my scum meter. It's "men" like you who are quick to beat women and two year olds but scared to death of hitting a man. I guarantee you would never hit a man like you hit that two year old because deep down inside you're a little sissy and don't have the balls. If I was to ever see you hit a two year old in public, first I'd kick your ass and than I would call the police and than you would receive a more violent possibly fatal ass kicking in prison.

I said there is no "I AM" because God said to Moses "I will be" as in he will reveal himself through his power by freeing them from Egypt. "I am" or "I will be"/"I shall be" is not a title for God.

Bluecanary your comment is dumb because rather than decide who to make marry based on something important like if the person is honest, supportive, have a lot in common with you, wise, intelligent, insightful, helpful, cheering you up win your sad or mad, faithful, etc. You overlook all that and choose sex as the deciding factor as to if he makes a good husband or not. You sound like you're using the logic of a 15 year old instead of an adult.

This is easily is the supidest comment I ever read. As to the question from the original poster I would say the percentage of Witnesses who wait until marraige is much higher than non-Witnesses.

Documentary About The Flood and Noah's Ark

about a week or two ago i watched a documentary about the flood in noah's day entitled "in search of noah's ark".

two things i found very interesting in this program is a theory that one person had about how they believed the flood was caused due to a meteor hitting the ocean creating a tsunami that flooded the entire earth.

scientist were unanimous in their view that this is a very plausible scenario and that there is no way to rule this possibility out.

I just want to warn everyone that the video link that Leolaia posted is NOT the documentary I am referring to. The documentary I saw came on the National Geographic Channel. That documentary viewed the possibilities of a global flood from purely a scientific level and the producers were obviously not believers in the Bible's account of the flood. Needless to say that quote Leolaia made is not in the video I watched. I 'm not sure if this Roger Rusk guy is the one I saw in the video but he didn't say anything remotely close to a shift of the earth's axis so I doubt it's him. I tried to find a link to the program I saw but couldn't find one, I'll look again to avoid any farther confusion as I now notice that several programs share the same title as the documentary that aired on the National geographic Channel.

NOTE: My apologies, the program is actually entitled "Search For Noah's Ark" NOT "In Search Of Noah's Ark"

About a week or two ago I watched a documentary about the flood in Noah's day entitled "In Search Of Noah's Ark". Two things I found very interesting in this program is a theory that one person had about how they believed the flood was caused due to a meteor hitting the ocean creating a tsunami that flooded the entire earth. Scientist were unanimous in their view that this is a very plausible scenario and that there is no way to rule this possibility out. If that is how the flood happened, that would answer the question of where did the water come from and where did it go. Another thing I found interesting is that despite the fact that the producers of the program didn't believe in the Bible's account of a global flood, even they had to acknowledge that there was at least a localized flood that wiped out a lot of people in the Middle Eastern area due to the overwhelming evidences, and also due to the fact that a story of a global flood by ancient civilizations has been pasted down for generations in every part of the world. Some people view the fact that other ancients recorded a global flood before the Bible as proof the account is a fable, but as the program pointed out, the fact that it's been recorded by so many different civilizations is evident that a major flood took place in earth's history. For example if two people say they saw a blue car crash a tree, your natural reaction wouldn't be to think one is copying other, but that a car (most likely blue) hit something (most likely a tree). It wouldn't be logical to think so many people thousands of years ago who didn't know each other decided to simultaneously make up the same fairy tale.

why do you guys spend so much time discussing and researching a book you believe to be fiction?

I can feel the pain in your post KW13. It sounds like you have a lot of deep seeded issues with the Watchtower. I never said I was witness but since you seem to have a lot to get of your chest I'll just go with the flow. You still can't deny after all those years you're still hurt and you don't know what to do about it. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for you. I think you should take my suggestion and devote your time into something that brings joy, rather than being on the forum where people bring nothing but bad energy by bringing up painful experinces.

I guess you guys can't read well either. You all seem to be upset because I struck a nerve. The truth hurts doesn't it? You guys are too mentally and emotionally weak to handle the truth so you response with name calling, profaninty, insults, and whatever else 8 year olds do. You guys can't deny the fact that you'll can't move on with your lives because you'll are too weak and bitter and in the end all that negativity you have inside will destroy you.

To God_Delusion you really need to learn how to read. I never said the flood happened 6,000 years ago(megs said that) and as far as where I got all humans coming from one man from, if you had taken the time to read all the post correctly before you commented you would of seen the link I posted to the National Geographic Channel video which gives plenty of evidence to that fact.
